Got tickets to a Devils vs. Rangers at madison square garden in nyc this month. First row i think center ice, literarly at the glass. I want to bring my camera but not sure if security will be like "its not allowed". I can't find anything on the MSG site about it. Figure i'de ask on here to see if there is anyone who could help me out.

You'd have to sneak it in. They do not allow SLR's. If you are able to get it in, which is not that difficult, you'll then probably not be bothered, as long as you don't use flash.

There's been posts before about sneaking in cameras and I've taken an immense amount of heat for saying I see nothing wrong with it. I've got thick skin though.

From the MSG Web site:

Video cameras, monopods, tripods, audio recording devices and cameras with telephoto or zoom lenses are not permitted inside Madison Square Garden at any time. This policy will be strictly enforced. You may bring in a disposable or 35mm camera (with no zoom or telephoto lens), however, for some events, cameras of any type and/or flash photography may be prohibited.

The issue that always comes up in these situation is, if you try to "sneak" something in and are stopped at the gate, you'll have to haul it back to your car. Then, you'll not only probably miss some of the game (and NHL games are NOT cheap) but you'll most likely be worried about leaving your gear in your car.

The question I always end up asking folks is: "Is it really worth bringing your expensive equipment into a pro arena to shoot from your seats? The images you're gonna get are going to be poor, at best. Why not just bring in a P&S to shoot your group, not worry about sneaking anything in, and enjoy the game?" But that's just me.

I dont have a p&s really, could borrow the fiancee's. But these seats are litarlly at the glass. Me and my fiancee's cousin will be right there banging away when rangers have a good hit/score/fight

Maybe I can call someone and ask if its possible for nhl games. I wouldn't be using a flash anyway.

The only ones who can tell you the "real" word are the folks w/ MSG (the stadium not the food additive). It's worth a call. Their info number is: (212) 465-6741 and guest services is (212) 465-6225 .

I hope the Devils wipe the Rangers all over the ice. They've been doing this pretty regularly since 1997 anyway

well up untill 2 years ago maybe, not anymore.

as for the photography. i emailed MSG, the media department emailed me back saying "digital cameras are allowed at all MSG events." I emailed back making sure that DSLR's are included in that statement.
