A Few Close-Ups....

Trying to build up a wedding portfolio over the next few months. Here are a few shots I staged at the weekend, using my wife's wedding shoes & our wedding rings.

Would appreciate your feedback....

^ I am in the same boat --the shoes take a long time to load ?? Does not seem that great of a shot. I like the last one but the one ring is out of focus---otherwise would be a great shot.

I think they are sound, after only recently getting married myself i would say that the missus loves all the fine details so as long as you capture that, the brides should be happy, after all that is what they spend so much time and money running around looking for?

would not go for such a shallow DOF on the shoes shot.

The shoos don't work for me as you see more the inner part than the shape of the shoe. Taking images of shoes, I would try to avoid the label with the size too.

For the third image more DOF is needed, as it's much to narrow and the second ring is already totally OOF.

As already mentioned, loading the images from your server takes much to long, the size of the first image (51 KB) is fine for the used resolution. If you want to advertise with an own website, get an faster server!!! Nobody will wait that long.

I like the #3 shot of the rings

The points you have chosen to focus on are not optimal.

1 I think people would rather see the front of the shoes rather than the sole.

2 any reason why you chose to focus on the BACK of the inner rings, rather than the front on the outside where all the detailing is?

3 the rings are TOTALLY out of the DOF. We do see some sharp text though, but I'm sure that's not what you were going for.

Often in macro work like this, I use manual focusing. Once you've set focus, move your camera closer/further from the subject until you can see exactly what you want in focus. I really don't like relying on AF for shots this close using DOF so small.
