So funny this thread come up, I just got an email ad from Calumet Photo saying the 5D has been discounted to $2499. I don't follow 5D pricing but that does not sound like much of a deal to me. B&H has it for $2299. :D

B&H and Adorama seem to have the most consistant pricing, most other online camera stores seem to be a little crazy. I've seen a lens listed $900 above B&H/Adorama on one site.

Working UK money to US money I reckon I paid $4,400 for my 5D just under 2 years ago. I know it was a lot but I couldn't be happier at what I've got out of it, I only wished I'd sold all my crud lenses to get the 35L sooner to go with it.

No matter what the mk II is going to be like, the current 5D is a stunning camera so anyone buying for around $2,000 really is winning.

You can pick them up for less than $2000 today if you don't mind having someone else break them in.

Well I figure if and when the replacement for the current 5D gets announced (Feb PMA 2008 maybe) then the current 5D kit and bodies only in the distribution channels will get discounted and a lot of pro shooters will dump their current low milage 5D spare bodies for cheap.
Especially if they move up the new Mark III S's. That way they might buy the current 5D replacement to more closely match up to their 1D's feature wise as spares.

But ya never know...pure speculation.

I see a bunch of used 5D's body only showing up in private sales here in Canada in the last 3 or 4 days. Anywhere from $710(???) to $1900

i was thinking of renting a 5D for a week or two soon, as i've got a couple of upcoming gigs, but i might be better off holding tight, seeing what the rebates are like, buying and then dumping when (if?) the new model comes out in a few months.

And strangely, i just looked at B&H, and it seems the 5D has bounced back up $50 from $2,299 to $2,349.95. Maybe a little pre-rebate "adjustment"?
I don't understand big business strategy, but, price reductions on top of a (possibly significant) rebate.... sure has the feeling to it that they are making way for something new in the not too distant future.

Beach & BuyDig both had $2299 this morning. I haven't checked since then. I know
Beach does not charge for their basic 3-5 ground shipping.

Speculation request:
I wonder what the bottom will be for used 5D's with approx 10,000 clicks.
20D's seem to be going for $500 - 550 used which is 40-45% of new price.
Perhaps then $1500 for 5D after the 5D MII is out for a year or so?

I saw one (open box) at best buy the other day for $2299...went back today - it was gone - no more 5Ds on display. Not that I would buy it there.

Nope, that's the 2006 form ... I still can't find the fall 2007 form on the Canon Canada site. Vistek is now providing a link to it:

If the 5D's are to be sold at or below 2k when or before the new 5D comes out, I maybe tempted to get the 5D instead of saving even more money for the new body.

You can technically get the 5D at BHPhoto for $1,940.00 right now without a rebate: http://www.bhphotovideo.com …OS_5D_Digital_Camera.html (external link)

W/the 24-105, which sells for $1,059.00 at BH, and the Body, it is: $2,999.00 - If any significant rebate comes my way, I might have to bite on this, then sell the 24-105. Not a bad deal deal for a great camera that started out with a $$$ tag of $3,300.00!
