I use PickPic (external link).

I looked into every option available (regardless of cost) and went with PickPic, for whatever that's worth.

pickpic was right up there for me too. The one feature that it had over photocart was that the client could crop it the way they want.

I really didn't want to give the client this kind of power... unless pickpic can take those crop parameters and apply it to full res files automatically. From what I understood, it couldn't do that. Dan, please correct me if I'm wrong.

So in the end, photocart won out because I didn't want the crop option anyways... and it's $1000 cheaper than pickpic.

I was on Pictage.... and learned one thing: Canadians don't want to buy stuff from the States. They were paying EXTRA shipping, and had to wait over TWICE as long to get their prints. Also, because everything comes out of sunny and humid California... many of their products did not adjust to the dry edmonton climate well at all! Books were warping like crazy. Nasty stuff.

So, is Pictures Pro based in Canada, then?

no, it's a self-fulfillment system. All it does is take the orders and makes the reports so YOU can send the order to YOUR preferred lab. So all it is, is software, not a full service site.

It's based somewhere in the states. Toll free number so I really have no idea where I called.

Ah, I see. Thanks! I kind of like that, though, getting to choose your own lab.

yeah, I decided that was the best way to go. The last straw with pictage came when a customer of mine bought a proof album for $600. Sounds like a good chunk of change... but after all the fees and crap... I got my cheque for... $105. yeeesh... what a lousy return. The print sales numbers were similar. I soon found that fulfilling orders myself doesn't take up HUGE amounts of time once you get a system down, and *I* control the quality, and they get their prints much faster, and the return is much higher.

Hey Lloyd,

I just took a peek @ the photo cart demo, it seems REALLY cluttered, can you get rid of a lot of the stuff on the pages? Do you have a sample gallery I can see by chance?

yeah, I totally agree. I'd rather take the extra few minutes to fulfill my own orders and make more money! ;)

That would have been hell.

I dabbled with oscommerce for a few weeks for another project and it was the most bloated, ugly piece of software I've ever worked with.

It wasn't too bad because I had spent quite a bit of time on another website. Thus the hell was already passed through. :)

I stripped it down.

I am using an online gallery with no sales right now but was looking into PhotoCart.. great timing for this thread.

Anyone else with some real-world experience with the product?

So do you guys (who use Photocart) use their web services as well? Am I correct in reading that the website costs $299 and Photocart costs an additional $279?
