Last Friday I shot the premiere of 'Vers Glas" (Fresh Glass; Bert Haanstra (external link)'s Academy Award winning movie, with 4 new soundtracks performed live)
If you've never seen the movie: Correct that. It's nice.

The four *very* different 'soundtracks' made the movie appear different each time. Quite fun.

All images here (external link)

Logically, light was almost non-existent. So everything was shot off a tripod.

Exif is in the images.
Lenses used: 20/1.8; 28/1.8; 50/1.4; 85/1.8 and 80-200L.
ISO 1600, manual, around 1/10s at f/1.8 or equivalent. Blended exposures in Raw.
Some screens have been photoshopped in...

Near the end of the show, my camerabroke down, so I had to finish the shoot on manual focus. At least some images were sharp (like the last one) ;)
Exif in those shots says "0" for aperture, where in truth the lenses were shot wide open.

wow no comments?

this is very good shooting in a difficult setting. i've done a few shots w/ performers in front of backdrops, and it's very hard to get a decent amount of light on the performer while not blowing out the screen image.

it helps that the musicians (seated ones, anyway) had some light source shining on them. but 1 and 2 are very well executed. straight exposures or blended?

I guess everybody is watching the movie (external link) ;)
They should; it's only 10 minutes...

While photographing, the movie was on screen about 10 times. I watched an eleventh time on youtube, because I hadn't really seen it ;)

Thanks!
The lighting certainly helped... (except where it hit the screen)
Allmost all images are blended (except for the rehearsal ones): The screen was about one stop too bright... (and had (still has sometimes) a funky color cast)

Avant Garde? I guess you could say so about the music, but the movie is from 1958 :p

Or did you refer to the images?

Actuations: Not sure. About 90-100k I guess.
It's being repaired now and should be as good as new (actually better I hope) ;)
