You say that Lloyd but you also dont say that you backup cards before leaving the venue so I am guessing you dont ?. I think anyone who doesnt backup before leaving the venue is being cavailier and I dont understand why more people dont do it, if the first thing you do when you get home is backup your cards then you may as well just stay at the venue another half hour and do it there surely.

Like Tim, I don't find any real benefit in backing up before leaving the venue. If you lost the images from the church ceremony, there's little you can do with a tired, drunken couple at a reception hall.

The first thing I do when I get home is shower and go to bed... ;)

I don't look at the cards until morning. Not much can happen between getting home and waking up.

Maybe the church ceremony would be tough to recapture, but some of the others would definitely be recoverable if you found you had a problem whilst still at the venue. Obviously if you leave it until the end of the evening to back them up you dont stand much chance of getting anything but we do ours just as everyone sits down to eat so theres still a good chance for some shots after that if necessary.

Each to their own of course, not saying our ways the right way just explaining why we do it and what our beliefs are.

I agree with that. I do almost the same thing.

There has to be some type of portable HD with a screen and built in card slot just for this? Has David Jay made one of these yet?

I bought the Hyperdrive Space casing and installed my own 80GB hard drive. Hasn't failed me yet!

I use a 40 Gig FlashTrax to store my images as soon as I remove a card from the camera. It protects you against physical loss of a card (Cardinal sin) as well as card corruption at a later stage. Most of the posts in this thread seem to point to the idea that card failure is inevitable at some stage - although I would hate to be the one to break the news to the B&G. I'd like to ask if anyone has selected a 1D in any of it's guises with a dual card slot to write to two cards, for added protection. The 5D is very appealing for IQ and full frame, but a 1D is equally appealing for build and particularly the peace of mind offered by writing to 2 cards at once.

I use Lexar Pro 4gb.

I have lost a max of 10 photos, but i dont know if it was the CF card, or my 5D burning up during a wedding ( yikes )
