Well I have been very happy with PS CS2. I've learned a lot and its a work horse for me. I use other programs as well.

Currently I am using Camera Raw 3.7 which is the latest for CS2. There is were the problem lies. I have a 5D and XT. So when I purchase my next camera, whenever that is (like a 5DII), I will not be able to do raw with CS2. Adobe does not support CS2 with the latest Camera Raw. This is obsurd, most reputable companies will support at least the current and one revision back of there software. I feel like Adobe is holding a gun to my head. The upgrade is $200us for CS3 and $350us for CS3 Extended.

Bibble is $130us, Capture One is $130su ,$500us, Lightzone is $150,$250. Etc etc.

Is anyone else voting with there wallet and leaving PS behind?

Batch to DNG using the free Adobe DNG converter, keep using CS2. CS3 ACR is definitely better though.

Ditto! No problems here. Even converts to use with PS5.0! ;)

DPP is not free. You paid money for it. It is part of the price of the camera.

I feel th esame way David. My next camera will likely be the 40D. I still have CS2 and use it but I primarily use LR. My plan is to continue using LR and upgrade it as it will be cheaper than upgrading PS CS2. This way I still get all the latest RAW capabilities but I still have a powerful pixel editor in CS2.

Yeah! This could be a great option. Although DNG files are larger then CR2. But this would work.

I also notice that there are 5 cameras that are now doing DNG. Of course they are not Canon or Nikon.

For my 20D, my DNG files are on average 10% smaller than my CR2 files. But that could be the options that I am using in the converter. I tell it that I don't want a thumbnail embedded in the DNG file.

Therefore, since it's already paid for, why not use it - it's great, in my opinion.

Funny how you'll pay to upgrade your camera but you won't pay to upgrade the software you use?

like Tim says - The upgrade is worth every penny - the recover tool in ACR is worth the price alone.

and your worrying about something that may or may not be important to you in the future

The new Elements I think supports ACR 4.2, whether or not you could then go into CS2, don't know.

Matter of fact, I don't know what I know.

You also paid for Basic modes on your camera. Do you use those? How about all of the custom functions? Internal flash?

Or better yet, do you have the spare tire on your car? Why not, you paid for it? ;)

Just because you bought it doesn't mean you have to use it. DPP is great for some, but I can't stand it.

No offense, but, I believe the OP question was about post processing RAW files, not camera controls or spare tires. I only meant that it performs the needed task & since the OP already has DPP why not give it a try. ;)
