There's a blown highlight at the front of the insect. That apart it's pretty good for starters.

Mike
A very good start to using this lense. I 'think' eccles might mean the white just below the eyes as the blown highlight. The white on the eye is just a reflection of either your flash if you used one, or a light source nearby. You can clone out the flash in post processing if you want but I rarely do. Assuming the blown highlight is the white marking on the bee that eccles was referring to, you might be able to slightly correct it in post processing using the 'levels', or when taking another shot similar to that, simply adjust your fec if you can, although its not always possible to do quick adjustments when already set up for any particularly shot.

Did you use a flash of some sort for this shot? Also have you slightly over sharpened the image - the eyes look fine to me but there is something not quite right with the 'texture' of the rest of the shot.

I use the 60mm practically all the time and love it, I am sure you will get thoroughly enjoy it too.

I had to use the camera flash, I left mine at home like an idiot.

no sharpening, just open the raw file in PS3 and save.

Mike - the onboard flash would explain it then :) You could re-process a copy of the original and adjust the levels and see how it comes out.

That's a pretty decent first attempt Mike, well done. Some insects are highly reflective, and it's hard to avoid blowing out those parts. Diffusing the flash can, and does help. PP in either DPP or Photoshop can also help to some extent, but it's usually better to get it righ in camera first, than in PP. Looks like a Miner bee as well if I'm not mistaken, they have lovely eyes. Welcome to POTN as well :)

Thank you all for your comments and recommendations. Next time I won't forget my flash. I am still learning PS, I guess I will play around with it.
