On the 30D camera it has a setting for sports, but everyone I talk to say's do not use it. It just does not do a good job. Is Canon going to fix that,or is it just better to use another function on the camera?

You might want to post your question in the EOS Digital Camera forum.

The "Basic Zone" settings are designed to get "Joe Average" taking reasonable pictures. They're for the same target audience as the automatic modes on P&S cameras - to give you a pretty good shot straight out of the camera, without touching a computer. So, for what their target audience is, they don't need changing. It's not so much that it doesn't do a good job as that it limits what you can change. For instance, you've got no control over ISO, and it only allows a limited ISO range (since they don't want you upset about noise). You can't shoot RAW. You can't control the AF points that are used, or the AF or drive modes. If they allowed you to select all those, you might just as well be using one of the Creative Zone settings.

I agree with Jon, as for another mode, I would recommend AV and set it up with the largest aperture and adjust ISO to keep the SS up. Thats what I do and its never let me down.

And use center focal point only to focus on what YOU intend to be the subject.

Also set your custom function C.fn-04 setting to 3. This will allow you to use the * button to focus on moving targets and have optimal focus at the time the exposure is taken.
