If that's a totally un processed copy of a RAW file, then whats the problem? The 100% crop shows a typical RAW product - Slightly desaturated, whites not white, blacks not black etc. etc.

ALL of that would be dealt with as a matter of course in my normal post processing routine, so whats the problem?

I see absolutely no sign of motion blur, it's just slightly "soft". For a hand-held 1/30th sec it's fine.

Now if its a JPEG that had in-camera sharpening applied, along with a colour mode - then maybe I'd agree theres a possible problem.

Got to agree really, 1/30th, add your slight movement and subjects slight movement, and other windy/earth quake factors etc. chances are you are going to get a slight motion blur on a high percentage of shots,,,,,,,,,,, though it is not that bad, but as you say it could be better

and as you say you have shot more successful ones at a lower shutter, the amount of factors involved does mean you will get some failures

don't think a 40D gonna make any difference with that shot you took at 1/30th :(,,,,,,, that new Sony thingy might, but then it might also look crap as well

now if you were using a lens with IS,,,,,,, that is a different story :)

okay u got me, here's the truth... I was stoned, its a miracle that I got that shot at 1/30 :) My hands where probably shaking around...

I still like 40D though. But I'd rather buy a lens or used 5D :D

p.s. sony is piece of crap. I'll never buy a camera named alpha or beta :) sounds like pre-production model... eeek

:D:DAdvice - If stoned use 1,000 of a second minimum and tape the camera to your hand so you don't drop it :p

You should learn to. You get the advantage of working with 12 bits of data vs 8 bits from the jpeg.

what? I only publish on web, I don't need this. I shoot raw when top quality is crucial.

taping it is a good tip :D no actually when I'm stoned I can be quite efficient, its a different story when I'm drunk + stoned - thats the worst combination that gives me allot of artistic boost but my technical skills decrease like for 50% :D
