I need to replace the platform on my BH-3 with a newer one. I'm on an extremely tight turn-around so I need to do the job myself instead of shipping it out to Kirk. I've checked out the Benro tear-downs here but they weren't of much help.

Anybody know how to get the platform off the post? Pictures would be quite helpful.

I've already removed the "captive" screw and the entire locking assembly, but I seem to have hit a dead end. There's a tiny allen bolt in the top of the body casing - does that need to be loosened? I'm afraid I'd strip it because it's minuscule.

The only other screw I can see at all is on the underside, up the channel where the 3/8" post goes. That screw, however, seems to be directly connected to the panning base and unrelated to my objective.

Any answers GREATLY appreciated, I can't order a new platform until I know I can get the old one off, and I need to put in the order to B&H by about 11 AM EST to get same day shipping to get it in time.

Thanks!!!

(Sorry for the bad quality - I've been awake for 40 hours and I'm on my last legs...)

I just looked at mine and at the Kirk site. Looks like the QR mount threads onto a male threaded post at the top of the ball stem. Probably Loctite'd on. Call Kirk and they will like tell you what you need to do to get it loose.

Spoke with Kirk this afternoon... you're correct, it was only Loctite, no secondary captive bolt or anything. Just took a good solid twist and came right off.

Thanks for the input.

when you put it back on, I'd recommend you use loctite again, but do be sure you use the correct color (strength) which i believe is blue.

blue is correct. it will hold it very strong but it can still be removed if you need it off. red will be impossible to remove without extreme heat so don't use that one...
