I use xti. Shoot in raw. I also always shoot in apeture priority or M mode.

If you use image modes (when you push the middle button and it gives you 8 choices of modes, such as landscape, portraite, black and white (i don't have camera in front of me to see all options))), does it really matter in RAW?

I could see if shooting in jpg that could make a big difference. When i import to lightroom, i always do a Punch filter as I like my pictures a little more vibrant. I leave my camaera in landscape mode. Is there a better mode to shoot in.

The picture styles do not affect RAW files. They would make a difference if you shot jpg though.

I don't use it much, but I believe you can apply picture styles to RAW files in Digital Photo Pro.

The preview you see will look like the settings that are set for the jpeg, it's just that with RAW you can alter these settings before committing the data to a cooked image...
