I'd say don't buy. You'll regret it and just end up whining like everyone else. :p

If you can live without it for now, do so until the focus "problem" is solved. If you still want one then, then get one. If still um and ah when there are no focus issues then you don't really want/need one. :D

Thanks Pete - I've read alot of your reply's in other threads, and you have always commended the MKIII.

Another thing i've seen alot of test shots from the "Pro's" out there, pointing out which picture is in focus and not in focus when doing the multi shutter test.It made me laugh when they show'd a "out of focus" shot.To me i did'nt see any difference between them.So if that is whats called a out of focus shot then they should see what my 20D does lol.

I placed a order for the MKIII a few weeks back, with the supplyer saying i would have to wait a good 3-6 mounths because they were in such demand.

Well i had a message left on the answer phone saying there is some coming in and i could have one by the end of the week HURRAY !(i think thats because there was alot of cancalled orders ? )...............BUT

Seeing that i've read all this stuff going on about the focus issue i am now reconsidering getting one .But then again i've seen so many awesome shots taken with the cam, both nature and motorsport(member Brands shots for example) i just dont know what to do ?.

Some advice would really help me make up my mind

ps - sorry if you keep answering the same old questions

I just passed on my fourth MKIII. My first one had issues and I returned it. I am not going through another test session for Canon until I hear directly from them what is going on.

Sad, as I really liked the camera, but getting a camera that can't focus is like getting a car that can't stop....kinda need the feature...know what I mean?

Yea...I probably had a lemon, but I am still a bit gun shy. It's not the money, it's the headache of the checkout and the aggravation of having to hand it back to my dealer...again...if there is a problem. I hate doing that.

So, I turned one down just this AM...I think Canon owes us some information before I write another check

What i cant understand is WHY are some peeps saying they love it, and then there are other peeps like yourself saying they have had alot of problems ?.

Then theres the peeps that are NOT having the focus issue and peeps that are having the issue ?.

Is it a case a really bad luck as to receiving a fuilty cam ?.

I cant get my head around it  .

Well thats just the problem.

I am happy with mine but I have also seen a focus problem. Not like GBRandy but with a small bird on busy background. Focus was locked on the bird and suddenly for no reason focus changed to the background. But since that kind of photography really is minimal for me I don't see it as a huge problem and am sure it will be solved with a firmware update eventually. Other than that I am very happy with mine.

You will always hear more bad things about a product than good things as a whole. When it works right like it should most people wont take the time to say "I love it, its perfect" as thats what its supposed to do work. When people get a defective product they are far more apt to look for a spot to complain and in the case of a camera what better place than a camera forum. I know whats its like to get a defective product I went thru 3 DVD players when the first came out before I got one that lasted more than a month (JVC) still have a JVC today that works great. My point is angry/upset people are always far more vocal than the happy ones.

personally I would go for it - in the UK you always have 7 days at any store, and if you buy with a credit card and it goes wrong - just contact your credit card company as they are jointly liable.

I didn't know the 20D had the same tendency to do that. (I have had a 20D but don't remember if I saw that problem).

If say i was trying to photograph a small bird with the 500, because the size of the middle focus point(the square) is big it will sometimes have trouble to stay locked on to the subject. Its different when the subject is full frame tho.

I dont know if the square focus points on the MKIII are the same size ?
