I called up 17th street photo yesterday morning and they verified they had body-only in stock. They said that it will ship that afternoon and I'll probably have it in 1 day. I figured the XT that my wife has been using has earned its keep (a few times over) and needs retirement.

so here it is 1 day later...the big brown truck just came in and I'm already in heaven!!

The viewfinder on this thing is freakin awesome!! Worlds better than the rebels and heck I think I notice a difference from the 20D/30D. The thing reminds me of the 1D viewfinder and yes it has ISO in it!! WOOT! I immediatly bolted up my 70-200/2.8L.... omg... just omg. I'll be at a horse show friday night, a private sitting saturday for portrait type stuff, and another horse show on sunday, so I expect to put a couple thousand shots through this thing over the weekend.

No I didn't do the lens purchase and ebay dump... finding a body only kit was hard enough. Just waiting on the grip and batteries... hopefully they will arrive tomorrow so I have a 3 batteries and a grip for this weekend. My poor arm will fall off if I have to shoot w/o a grip through three sessions.

17photo is an amazing e-tailer. I actually started using them before B&H, nowadays. If you live in the tri-state area, expect to receive it next day. Good luck on your 40D!

How is the viewfinder as good as the 1d and bigger than the 30d when the 1d shows 100% of the frame and the 30d and 40d both show only 95%? Perhaps you were speaking of brightness?

ok, read "The thing reminds me of the 1D viewfinder". I never said "as good as".

While I don't own a 1d to do direct comparison, but from what I remember of a 1dIIn I played with not too long ago its similar in size. I DO have an XT, XTi, 20D and 30D to do direct comparison to and its absolutely larger, brighter, and has iso info on it (pet peeve of mine for a while now).

I just got mine yesterday too and I LOVE it. This may sound odd to some but honestly I will probably shoot more with the 40D than my 1Ds MkII. Just seems like the controls are much easier to use. ISO simply move the index finger 1/2" inch and press the button then spin the wheel.

who says you can't bird with a 40d? Heck, I can bird with a XTI+70-200/2.8L!

Of if wide is your thing you can always bird with an XTI + 24-70/2.8L

the 40D is bigger than the 30D

Photographic Images on Brett Butler px500 & Flickr Some Canon Bodies , few blackish lenses, A dam heavy black one, couple dirty white ones, a 3 legged walking stick, a mono walking stick, and a bag full of rubbish :oops:
And Still Learning all walks of life, & most of all Photography.
