I'm buying a used canon lens...the warranty card is blank.
Is the warranty valid ,even though I am not the original buyer and I have no bill of sale?

Thanks
Mike

I do not know for sure but I think they require the receipt or bill of sale.

Warranty card is not particularly of value...you need a receipt as evidence of date of purchase.

So if I got the buyer's receipt, it's gonna be fine?

Here's how it works in New Zealand; your situation may be different.
Assuming it is still within the warranty period, Canon (NZ) will repair something under warranty if you have the completed warranty card, or can provide proof of purchase from a Canon agency in NZ and the purchase date, irrespective of who purchased it; or the item is still within the warranty period based on the date of their record of sale to the retailer. I don't know the situation for items bought overseas with Canon international warranties.

Receipt as long as it's less than 1 year should be good. I drove my 30D to Canon repairs in Irvine and they just wanted to see the receipt to check the date. I don't think I turned in a warranty card when I bought it and they certainly didn't seem to check for it either.

Thanks all for your reply's .
Just got this from Canon :

"Thank you for your inquiry. We value you as a Canon customer and
appreciate the opportunity to assist you.

The Canon warranty will provide coverage to those that were the original
purchaser as well as those who have had the item purchased for them.
However, this does not include items that have been previously used and
then gifted.

We hope this information is helpful to you. Please let us know if we
can be of any further assistance with your EF 28-135mm lens.

Thank you for choosing Canon."

Sincerely,

Josh

So you're all correct

I just sent in my 50mm f/1.4 yesterday and the instructions given to me by Canon were to include the receipt or the warranty card as proof of purchase.

We send warranty service items in quite a bit. According to CPS, the warranty card is just a marketing gimmick. It means nothing. The vendors throw it away if its filled out. There is absolutely no need for them.

When you do send your stuff for warranty service, all Canon wants to see is a receipt with purchase date and your name on it. If they see that, they will repair for free.

Might want to contact e-bay..
Did you get an e-mail confirmation for your order?
Did you pay by credit card??{contact CC company-for receipt}

It's your call, but I'd try to get a copy of the original invoice.,......somehow.

I have sent in lenses for repair with a copy of the warrantee card and no receipt, and have had no problems at all. Maybe it was just good luck though.
