I just bought a brand new laptop and I am looking for a CF card reader to use in the expansion card slot. The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1720 and I believe the expansion slot is an ExpressCard slot. I've had a look at a couple, but I don't think they would suit me. The one that I am not sure about is the Delkin ExpressCard 54. That one looks like it might sit right inside the laptop, as opposed to some of the others which stick out, even without a card plugged in.

Does anybody have any recommendations? Or experience with the Delkin ExpressCard 54?

See my post here - https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=376058 - where I bought the card reader for my Dell XPS M1710.

I've just ordered a second one, yesterday, from the same supplier to fit into my new 12" travel laptop. The adapter does protrude by about 3mm from the little laptop but is completely flush on the 17" Dell.

The adapters that stick out quite a bit are for the 34mm slots, like those on Macbook Pros and small Sony Vaio sub-notebooks. This is a 54mm adapter, which has enough physical space to contain the whole adapter and much of the CF card within the body of the laptop

Here it is fitted into my 12 incher....

Thanks, that helps a lot! I'll probably pick one up if it will sit flush. Where did you order yours from?

I was looking for a Expresscard reader for my laptop, then I found this compact USB 2.0 reader. It's small enough to fit the laptop bag and very convinient for transporting files to friends computers.
