Football at ISO 3200

Hi the lighting was that bad at this game I could only get 1/200 at 2.8f with ISO 3200

1/200th at ISO 3200 = One night of shooting with your fingers crossed. Question Jim do you think the focusing could be out on your camera? My reason for asking is that the back ground seems to be sharper than the fore ground particular in the pictures taken around the goal. In 1,2 and 4 the spectators are better focused than the players.

Only one of the pics is 1/200 , you have 1/250 , 1/160 even.. Would have been easier to stick in manual and set shutter to 1/200 instead of AV mode and it bobbing about.

Otherwise good job of retrieving summat out of the conditions A lot give up and go home,so well done

Thanks Ken, I think the focusing is due to operator error not the cameras this was my first football game, found it a lot harder to shoot than rugby, (PRACTICE)

Thanks Tony, yes I should have done that. I was about to go home as well

ISO 3200 is such an extreme setting that I would have used ISO 1600 and 1/100 sec. instead; consider that with IS it is not an impossible job, yes you can run into some subject movement but for me it is not a big issue in sport shots.

Just my humble opinion.

you won't stop action at that speed, and IS only helps on stationary objects, not a moving target.

Hi all,
sorry I didn't want to hurt anyone with me previous post, I try to explain better what I meant.
First of all, I'm not doing professional sport shots so probably mine is not the best technique to apply.
However I have done some soccer and volleyball events for children, and I've tried to keep relatively slow shutter (e.g. from 1/80th to 1/125th) and I got
pictures where head and body of players is freezed, but legs and arms are not. I like this kind of shots because they feel dynamic.

Please feel free to comment my opinion, it would be nice to hear from you.

Probably better to leave the shutter on a 90 minute exposure and capture the whole game in a single image

Yes this is exactly what I mean! It is 1/125 at ISO 1600 isn't it ?
Does it work ? YES, for me! It is a very good shot.

I'm not questioning here if I can do it better or not, you have done
a very good work in very bad light.

I thought this is a place where anyone can discuss and share its experience,
but I find out that in this thread this is not true, so thank you all and goodbye!
