Thank You all for your advice and encouragement. I am still up in the air about what is the "right" thing to do but I decided to just burn him a CD at full resolution and be done with him. I am trying hard to be the better person. Some day when his other two children get married I am sure he will realize the great gift I gave my friend.

I think I learned a needed lesson. Well actually more than one.

Thanks again!

I think you did the right thing. While many prone a punitive approach, it is not your job to teach him a lesson in negative reinforcement and he is probably already an expert in that field! On the other hand, you may give him a lesson in generosity and compassion (towards his daughter-in-law).

On the plus side, I'm sure that you now know what to do to avoid these potentially frustrating situations.

Agreed you did the right thing. The probablity is that you can never "teach" someone like that anything. In my book if you believe that they are all idiots...........no one will ever let you down. ---seriously this works.

I think we have gone through this exact same thing at one time or another and once we've experienced it. Never Again! ;)

It's your final decision, people can give you recommendation what they would do in this situation.
Write the CD off as experience and define clear agreements before things go bad.

In case he asks for shooting the weddings of his other kids, add the loss to your price. ;)
"Special offer" doesn't have to be the lowest price, if I see some adds from big shops, the special offers are sometimes up to 30% above list price, but people believe that this must be the best deal. ;)
Recently I found the 70-200LIS ( 2.8 ), list about € 2000.-, best offer € 1650.-, special offer € 2650.- . Nothing really special.
