I have a friend who performs in a local band. His girlfriend performs in burlesque shows. Sometimes they play the same venue as a double bill performance. I'd like to approach him with the idea of shooting one of these performances.

So who needs to sign releases?

Here's what I know:
He's also the band manager, so I can get his signature for the whole band.
His girlfriend needs to sign for when she's on stage.
Other women in the burlesque show need to sign for their performances. I cannot shoot the ones who do not sign.

Do I also need a signature from the owner/manager of the venue?

It's nudity without being strip-bar pornographic. It's more artistic than your garden variety stripper. The performers often perform in costumes, with props (not adult toys), and to a theme or skit.

It would be adviseable to get the owner/manager's signature on a property release just to be on the safe side, but a verbal should be all you need as long as there is nothing identifiably belonging to the that club in the shots.

Second I would get all of the band's performer's on the release if possible, better that way, but the band manager's signature will suffice if that is all you can get.

:) And I would recommend getting the dancer's signature before she performs, it will be a bit distracting for everyone else if you get it while she is on the stage :)

Standard disclaimer - seek lawyer for accurate advise on legal matters.

What do you want to use the photos for? If it is something that you do need releases for, just getting the manager's signature won't be enough--unless he has power of attorney for the others, which I HIGHLY doubt.

Why do you need the release?

You should be fine to use the photos in your portfolio, put them on your website, sell them for editorial purposes and be able to sell prints. Just as long as you aren't using them for "commercial" purposes ie advertising/merchandising.
