I sent my camera in to the Canon service center in Irvine Ca. They were cleaning my 30D sensor and fixing my battery grip. I receive a call from Canon yesterday saying everything is ready. My friend came in today to pick it up for me, and they gave my camera to another person. I do not like the fact that anyone else other then me is touching my camera. Only two people I would trust my camera with, myself and Canon. My friend told me, they're going to call me sometime today to inform me about it. I hope the guy who has my camera is a nice guy, and doesn't drop it, scratch it, and rack up the shutter count, as this is only a Month old camera. Well on the plus side, my friend told me they gave me a brand new battery, for the mix up. I was hoping to use my camera tonight. Well things happen. Lets hope it will work out.

Current: Canon 40D w/BG-E2N, Canon 30D, Canon 10-22mm, Canon 17-55mm 2.8 IS w/EW-83J, Canon 70-200mm 2.8L IS, Canon 580EX II, Crumpler 6 Million Bag, and B+W MRC on all my glass.

Kind of surprising that they would hand the camera over to anyone buy you? Seems like a huge security hole.

Sounds a bit like the time I took my Subaru Impreza Turbo in for a service, then on the way back to collect it the next day in a hire car, some mechanic overtook me in it doing about 140 mph.

I complained to the country manager about it, and would suggest that you do the same....

I just receive a call from Canon, saying that they found my camera. The Camera is being sent back to them at this moment. They told me they will check it and clean the sensor again.

Interesting how you only trust Canon and yourself with the camera, but send your friend in to pick it up? If they shouldn't give it to anyone else, why should they give it to him?

(just Kidding)

I hope you get it back safely and soon, (If it's going to take a while ask for a loaner while you wait!)

I find that unacceptable. How do you know that the person who had your camera didn't do a multi-thousand frame photo shoot, effectively using your camera much more than your normal use would be.

I would demand more than just a free battery.

Hmm...that is weird. Canon does not release stuff WITHOUT the receipt they give you. The person at the counter just made a mistake of not checking the tags....ask them yo give you a 1200mm lens as an apologie...:)

I dont understand...

Youre friend went to pick it up for you? And youre mad they gave it to him? And now they have it back?

Im totally lost.

EDIT: Ah I see a little more now.

Your camera is ready
You send in your friend to get it
They give it to someone other than your friend
Youre mad that they would do that.

So of course thats begs the question, why are you mad they gave it to someone else when thats what youre asking them to do in the first place by sending in your friend?

Yeah, it's more of a case of them giving the other guy the wrong camera. In other words, THAT person's actual camera is probably still at the Canon at the moment. Who knows, maybe that guy sweats alot and now you'll have his bad BO on your grip. LOL.. just kidding. Good luck with that. ;)

Helrain: LOL!!! But seriously, that's disgusting. After you complained to the manager, did they do anything?

It's more about having the receipt, I would think. If his friend didn't have his receipt, then yes I'd be confused. In this case, it seems obvious the body was given to the wrong person because they simply picked out the wrong body under their custody. That itself shows a lack of process I would imagine, since the tag on the camera body should have also been clear on who the owner was, but of course mistakes can happen.

Man, if only that happened to me. Send my 30D in and they give me some other guy's Mark III. Heh!

Ok, I got my camera back. Everything seem good as new, so I am happy. The battery grip did not. It still has the same problem, the door latch gets stuck and does not want to open. The camera will still operate with the battery grip door. This is weird. I wish I never sold my old bg-e2 as the new one has a lot of problems. I guess I am heading back to canon again.
