I've decided that I will sell my Mark IIn and slowly move away from Sports Photography and venture more towards portraits and glamor. I did a shoot this weekend, the Mark IIn, and it just didn't cut it... So I bought a 5D and it made a world of difference. So to my Mark IIn I say to you, it has been a fun and exciting journey but I must bid you farewell.

Boring... with presumably beautiful women? They'd keep my attention.

I sold mine for similar reasons. Doing more wedding stuff and planning to do more portraits and glamour work prompted me to reconsider keeping it and opting for the 5D + 40D instead. I still have a 20D as well. The 1D2N is the best all around camera I've ever used. Ideally I'd love to have a pair of 1D Mark III bodies and a 1Ds Mark III. We can dream can't we? :(

I actually find it quite the opposite. With Sports, I find that I wait around a lot for the right shot, go home with over 1600 photos to sort through, and then only get 40-50 good shots. Most of the time I was at a bad angle or someone was in the way and I never really get what I want. All I am doing is trying to capture a moment. With People/Glamor photography I'm creating something completely from scratch. Introducing light and manipulating and creating something no one has every seen. I find much more of a challenge in that and I find it much more enjoyable. Besides, what's more pleasing, a girl in a bikini or two sweaty tattooed guys punching each other?

Quite sad when that's just about exactly my dream as well. :) Sure would have been nice last weekend shooting a golf tournament...

I dunno - I think even the Mark II does 'everything' damn well.

Meh. Whatever floats your boat I suppose.

I just cant stand the face-here,bend-there,light-this,softbox-that runaround.

I prefer the idea of capturing actual moments and emotion over simulating them in a studio. Just my two cents though...

I know how you feel and that's great but I just don't have time for that. I run a business full time and I can't meet the demands of sports photography, with portrait stuff, I can do it on my own time.

I like doing both. I find that sports photography trains me to catch things going on at a wedding that I wouldn't have caught before, and photographing weddings/portraits forces me to find new and more interesting approaches to photographing sports. Keeps me from getting bored with either one.
