Flash sync speed

Hi there,

I am having trouble understanding flash sync speed and what it does and what i should set it on for macro. Should I let the camera decide of use the 1/200 that the camera is set for now.

Have done some reading on the net and am more confused than when I started.

See if the illustration in this thread helps with the understanding.

I don't see an advantage to using HSS for most macro work, but I'm not a macro shooter so there might be something I'm missing.
