Any idea what casued this. It seems to be on only 1 out of 185 shots.
The straight line makes me think it might be a shutter problem but the colors make me think a card issue. It was shot in raw and the thumbnail in LR seems normal until I look at it by its self. Thanks for any input.

Bad card would be my guess ... I've seen it on here before, just like that, and that's what it was.

Always format the card in camera. Do not delete all. That might not be your problem but I thought I'd mention it.

It'd be a strange shutter problem, with part of the exposure semi-transparent. I'd expect part of the shot to be black, with a fuzzy edge. This looks like a digital (storage) problem, as swimchic and DDan have already opined...

Thanks for the responses, I always format in the camea. All teh shots also seem to be underexposed. I guess I can't use the problem as an excuse to upgrade from my Digital Rebel to a 40D.

Ahhh yes. I have seen that problem before. It starts out only affecting a few shots but gets progressively worse. Before long all shots will look like that. Better to go ahead and replace that faulty camera now.

Shutter blade move vertically, so it would be a very strange shutter to get that effect! The problem is likely in the camera's processing circuits.

Looks to either be a corrupted jpeg or faulty electronics in the camera. Is there a RAW version?

It was that way in the RAW version. In Lightroom ,the thumbnail at the bottom of the screen looked normal when I opend it in the Develop module, thats what I saw.

It is not a shutter problem. The shutter will leave a very out of focus line as it is some distance from the sensor itself. Clearly the corruption is in the data itself. There could be a couple of possibilities. It could be the card itself like one of the pin connectors making poor contact or dirt insulating one or more of the pins. Or something in the CF card slot or bent pin.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

I've seen problems outside of cameras that look the same. It is generally a poor write to a data storage device. So it could be your card or your camera not writing well. Can you try another card? If so, and when doing so, try and create the same load of use. because if it's the camera, it might happen due to a heat problem inside the camera.

Did you happen to shoot in RAW+L? If so are both versions the same?

No, I don’t think that this is a shutter problem; the line is never so sharp.

Format CF card in computer first, and then again in camera, and shoot away.
Let us know what happened..
