I've been using DPP for about a year now ..with good results.
After viewing the Luminous -landscape video tutorial ,I downloaded the trial version of Lightroom.
Has oneone done any comparisions to the 2 programs?
To me DPP seems to be alot sharper and easier to use????
Is it me ,or am I missing something???

Your opinions /advise are welcome

What is DPP? I use lightroom and find it outstanding & fast to use.

It is not free. You pay for it when you buy a Canon Camera. On the other hand Nikon charges for the full version of their RAW converter.

Ha ha isn't that funny, I am a photoshop, bridge, lightroom professional and I have never even looked at Canon''s supplied software, pardon my ignorance. If it works for you, and you're happy, then keep using it. I've got Aperture too but seem to prefer Lightroom so I don't use that either. Adobe Lightroom takes a little patience to master, but if you are familiar with other Adobe products it certainly helps. I must have a look at DPP so I can compare, but I doubt Canon's software would be able to match Lightroom.

I'll get back to this after I have a look (on the weekend).

Probably due to your familiarity with DPP. Give lightroom some time and see what you think. If at the end of the lightroom trial you still prefer DPP stick with it. Many shooters prefer to the Adobe products.

Mike, if you are running on a Mac you should really consider Aperture as an alternative to Lightroom. They both provide essentially the same functionality but go about it in different ways.

Tiz a little old but...

I believe Lightroom 1.2 is significantly better than DPP, but at the same time if DPP meets your needs why spend the money.

I use LightRoom for the bulk of my work and CS3 for the remainder. DPP allows linkage to CS3 too.

I have to say I prefer Lightroom over DPP and I'm biased cuz I know Lightroom a lot better than DPP.

I use DPP and use the latest version of LR (1.2) as a back up. Here is my feeling of the two programs.

DPP is faster and simpler. I think it offers more powerful sharpening, better colors, better curves feature, and it's max. size JPEG converted images are bigger.

LR is more combursome to go through and it's import/export feature is not as easy to use. I find that the colors are a bit more artificial looking and often there is a green cast that I have to remove in camera corrections. LR has a much better highlight recovery but if you do it too much a blue cast will appear. The fill in feature is nice on LR as well. You can also remove some CA, add/remove vignetting, correct tilts. The new clarity feature is nice way to selectively add contrast as well. The updated sharpening tool is better. I find the noise reduction is nicer than DPP. I do find it a bit too slow at times, as it offers more features.

So, I use DPP as a default, unless the ISO is high and I need more noise reduction than what DPP can offer, or if the lighting wasn't good and I need to do more extensive highlight recovery and fill in lighting.

Yes ,it does seem very diffent than DPP ,but I'm sticking with for now, maybe I'll get the hang of it-just seem the workflow is a lot quicker ,and simpler than Lightroom,at least on my machine anyway.
I still use CS2 and have for some time, together with DPP.

Thanks to all that replied.....GPGarvan ,tnx for the link..it was good reading.
TeeWhy..I looked at your shots from the Huntington Museum...last May I was in California{my first visit} and spent about 7 hours walking the grounds there....you got some really great shots ..nice work....your a talented photographer.
