I tried searching and found that apparently you can replace them ( at least on all previous models ) but I was just curious if anyone could confirm/deny that the MkIII screen can be removed and installed the same way as on previous models. Definitely going to call and order one tomorrow if so.

FWIW, be careful with your USB cable  Its not a huge knick, but its enough that its all I can see and its driving me nuts!

I've done it on a 1D and it came out ok but I'd send it in to Canon and let them do it. The window only cost about $20-$30 plus labor.

I thought about that, but anytime I dont have to ship a 4000 dollar camera, thats fine with me. Is it just pulling the old one off and then placing the new one in?

We must be the only two people that have a problem with having our expensive camera gear handled by the monkeys at FedEx/UPS.

I seriously don't get people that are like "new camera strap? Ship it to Canon!" "Battery needs charging? If you're not sure, just put your thousands of dollars camera in a cardboard box and hand it to a guy that absolutely gives no **** about it and has a quota to meet that will hand it off to various other people that care just as much across the country and ship it to Canon!".

Yeah.. if my LCD cover was scratched and it could be replaced by sticking a suction cup to it and yanking then applying a self adhesive new one in its place, I would.

I replaced the screen on my MK2 for the same reason, annoying little scratch. Inexpensive part and Canon was fast with shipping. I do recommend you order two or three of the double sided tape pieces though... The 1st one (or two) will be used for practice! If they still come as separate parts, that is. If you’re lucky, the tape will come already applied to the back of the screen! It was a challenge to correctly place the tape on the back of the screen without screwing it up. It is a very sticky, very thin tape. More like a gooey fragile film, than a tape. Once it was on the screen, it was easy to place the assembly on the body.

Tip… Don’t pull the old screen off until you have the double sided tape successfully applied to the new screen!

Listen to Lacks_Focus. I see he and I had the same problems. As far as shipping goes, the secret is in the packaging. I've shipped $8,000 cameras and $7,000 lenses around the country USPS, UPS, and FedEx with no problems. Wrap your $4,000 camera is a brown paper bag and ship and yes it probably will be damaged.

Haha I worked at UPS for 4 years as a package handler and as a supervisor. Believe me, it doesnt matter how well stuff is packaged, someones is getting rough treatment alllllll the time every time. It sucks to hear but its the nature of the beast really. If they took the time to delicately handle every single package, nothing would get anywhere on time. Even if its not actually damaged in shipment, Id bet money thats it has been tossed, slid, thrown, slammed, dropped at least ONCE on its trip through the system. And that once is one more time than would happen if I changed it myself.
