I wish all of my weddings are in a super picturesque location. I should move to Scotland or Italy or someplace like that.

I agree with you there, I did a backyard wedding over the weekend and it certainly wouldn't be classified as picturesque. However, I think if you charge enough $$ you'll get clients who will hold their wedding in a picturesque venue. I'm not there yet but working on it...

I'm planning to shoot a friend's wedding (my first) as well as planning my own wedding.

Having the photographer background in me -- and a budding photographer in my gf -- when we are deciding on places we are also thinking about where good photos can be shot. We're iffy now on the one place we liked even though it was on the water, had a smallish beach etc because we think it doesn't offer too much in regards to photos. So now we're looking at alternate locations for either the wedding or trying to map out locations around the venue we are semi-set on to go to take photos. Sort of doing the ground work for the photographer I guess.

I like to go to picturesque venues and find the most unpicturesque spot...

I have to agree some locations are blaughhhh ---- I like to take them outside for more creative "formal' shots. I have found that an old fence in the backyard is better than some bland church locals............... you have to be creative..............very creative.

Just make your photos more about the people than about the background. Sometimes a plain, non distracting background can be the best because it makes the subjects the only focus.

Sure it's great to have the subjects set in a great looking background, but it doesn't have to be that way to be a great photo.

That is true...but you have to have variety in life to keep things exciting, so I can understand how someone from Ohio (no offense, some of my fav people are in Ohio!) could feel that way!

And so could I! ;) I love dirty stuff like that! I just know that shooting weddings in Ohio would eventually make even me want to go to an exotic location for a wedding every once in awhile!.

It also amazes me when you're surrounded by such beauty, or cool places EVERYWHERE and people keep requesting boring locations to shoot.
