Using the same lens EF 17-40 f/4L USM in all three cameras, it seems to me the 30D has a much grainier look when looking though the viewfinder. The 40D and the 5D look about the same. Is that common? All the pictures turn out about as good as I could expect. I was just wondering if there was a reason for the difference or if it is common.

This has to do with the design of the focusing screen and shouldn't affect image quality in any way. Going from the 400D to the 40D I noticed that the viewfinder image appeared much more grainy, and this actually helps with manual focusing.
