As the prices have Dropped I decided to go and do it, and invested in a MK3 (well hardly an investment will be a big loss :()

First thing I noticed it is a lot bigger than I thought it would be, even against a 40D with grip, though about same weight.

I showing 3 images, all cropped around 50% some crops a bit bigger, resized for web, and no other PP

The Mandatory Duck one it is my first, f8.0, 1/125 ISO 800 560mm hand held with a 100-400L and 1.4 TC

Cow **** I just liked it f5.6 1/125 ISO 400 @400mm 100-400L

Early doors, it is very different, I did track a few bits and pieces and no problems, I locked AF, and the grass etc around the locked subject, and the AF did not break
The most noticeable difference for me early on is the colors and contrast straight out of the camera, and difference in High ISO and low noise, compared to my 40D and 30D.

Last image, I like the contrast in colors, again a big crop, F5-6 1/250 ISO 400 @ 200mm with a 70-200mm 2.8

Congrats, but your shots are not really good as of the compression they got by being uploaded on the net. Know the quality is much better though. :)

Have fun!

Congratulations!!! I went in my local jessops this evening and had a play with one, i was surprised by the weight, i expected it to be heavier! but as you noted, it's not all that much heavier [If at all....] than the 40d with grip which was a pleasant surprise......

Anyway, all i can say is... i really shouldn't have picked up the camera! i don't think it'll be long before i too stump up the cash for one

Well, enjoy the camera! i will be following your future posts with interest.....

Daaaaaamn, i'm jealous :p

I had a play with one recently as well. With a 70-200 2.8IS on it the whole lot starts getting pretty heavy. But oh so nice! All the buttons are some smooth and the thing is just solid.

I've been having going through a majorly stressful 5D -v- 1D3 -v- new5D thought process which has literally kept me up at nights. I have decided to go for the 1D3 - the speed and weather sealing does it for me.

Now I need to get one at the best possible price - I may be in the USA soon where it looks like you can get them for the equivalent of £2,200, compared to £2690 which is the cheapest here in the UK.

Good for you, man. You must be estatic.

Out of curiousity, do you shoot for money? Reason I'm asking is (as I think you know), I'm thinking of getting one too, but I'm just trying to justify the cost for yet another expensive hobby. For $4500, I could get a pretty sweet pair of speakers!

Oh...if you're up to it, maybe post some pics of your camera in your bag, etc. Hehe...Kind of geeky, but it might be something I'd do. And of course....post some 100% crops! Oh....and if you're really up to it, maybe some comparison shots of the 40D vs. 1D. Hehe....I know I'm asking a lot.

Another Duck, like this one cos of the way the ducks are in the background in a row
F8 1/200 ISO 800 hand held @ 560mm
it was really overcast, in late afternoon, and note the dirty pond water.
100-400L with 1.4 TC, it is not ice to use the 100-400 with TC and AF to work :)
resized and some minimal PP

No I don't shoot for money, it is a hobby, but I do hope to maybe sell some prints one day, actually sold one to a London newspaper the other day off web site, unusual Sports he called it, being Stoolball
I cannot compare to much over 40D just yet, and TBH the 40D is actually really really good, the sole reason i got a MK 3 is for Low High ISO noise, and that difference between a 40D and MK3 does stand out a mile,
If a person who uses a MK 3 and then picked up a 40D and shot it, I bet they would be pleasantly surprised to as how responsive the AF on the 40D is, though again I not really messed with any settings on the MK3 settings to make it quicker, though it was certainly not slow :) , but if you shoot sports in good light a 40D will do a great job. I will post some stuff if you wish tomorrow, after I play football.
It is very different to the 40D in hold and feel, in some ways I a bit disappointed in that the 40D felt good to hold, the Mk3 is different but will soon get used to it, my biggest problem is I am left handed, I am tending to mist up the VF and LCD on the mk3 did not on the 40D
I had a good walk around this afternoon, in some fields, and got a few shots, and loads of duck ones, but these are wild, and there was a small island on the pond every time I moved one way they would swim around the other :(, so never got that close, hence 560mm :(

I got it from Misco, it is like Dabs, though I have a trade account at both places, and have bought of Misco for years, but Computer equipment.
it is not on their web site though, I just phoned up my Trade account manager and he sorted it.
