I assume this is a sensor for ext flash, anyone know what it is, or know of something similar that works well? Im interested in adding an ext flash to my rig

Jon Cream of the Crop  69,628 posts Likes: 227 Joined Jun 2004 Location: Bethesda, MD USA More info | Oct 12, 2007 17:35 | #2 Looks like a Vivitar 283 auto-thyristor flash mounted on a standard Vivitar SL-2 slave trigger. You'd need to use your on-camera flash in manual mode with that particular combination, since otherwise the pre-flash would trigger the slave. You'd also need to manually set your camera's aperture to match the range (using the 283's calculator dial ) the 283 was set to. Jon
