the camera has a buffer so it's not necessary to get the fastest card unless you are shooting rapidly and fill the buffer. That said, you can get UltraII 2 gb cards at staples for under $30 each. Dont buy cards on ebay as they can easily be counterfit.

For a 40D, stick with name brand 2 gb or 4 gb cards - they are in the 'sweet spot' for price/size.

I use transcend 8 gig or 16 gig from newegg.com

Great cards that are quick and perform flawlessly

Brought 3 blank inkjet carts and got that staples 2gb card for $22 after tax.

Thanx...

I think at this point the Ultra II is "fast enough" as I don't think the 40D takes full advantage of the speed of the Ultra III. The Ultra III's have a maximum potential for write speeds but unless can write at that speed, it sort of doesn't matter.

I think elader is giving some practical advice. Also look out for sales, I bought some cheaper PNY cards at Staples in the 2GB size as they were on sale for $12.99 or something the other week back. I have yet to fill the buffer and overrun the capacity of the write to card speed so I'm golden.

I use the same as above (8gb X266). If you own a card reader you can offload them from your CP that much faster.
