Great gallery of airshow shots! Our airshow (Jacksonville, FL) is coming up in November, and these are great for showing me how to do it right!

Love the 1st photo, but can't wait to see what it looks like once you color correct it and do anything with it in PS.

Great shot, the first one, congratulations!
The second is good too, but the first one is superb.

What we see depends mainly on what we look for.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I work in a cubicle but it's a cubicle with a real wall on one side. I've been patiently filling this wall with nails over the years and the first shot I posted will definitely be the cause for another nail in the wall. Every nail in the wall has to have a picture hung from it....

BTW, the technical name for what's happening with the first shot is a Prandtl-Glauert Singularity (external link)

Sadly, today there appears to be a lot more water in the air. So much so, it's coming out of the air :(

I agree with everyone else that the first shot is spectacular. I also agree that the 40D when shooting at 6.5 fps goes through memory likes no one's business. An 8gig card in my 400D would hold over 700 images in RAW, the 40D just under 600. At sporting events I find myself taking shots more than twice as fast. Wow, I am going through memory much quicker than before. I need a larger stable of backup cards. Anyone know of a deal? :D

Hi Julie,

Nice images but why, in the second image, is one plane sharp and in focus and the other is not.

I shot a few air shows that featured the USAF Thunderbirds and don't remember any maneuver or conditions to cause that.

I have some shots from when I saw them in August in Atlantic City.

I would guess that Julie was panning the rear jet and the other simply blurred since it came from the opposite direction.
