I have had my XTi for just over a month now and love it very much. But am I too protective? I wanted to get a new strap with a quick release but was fearful that and pieces of metal still attached to the body might end up scrathing the body will its in its bag. I constantly clean the camera (just wiping dust away from it), and keep it in its bag probably 95% of the time I'm not using it.

Anyone else out there that is extremely protective of thier camera/equipment? Or am I the only crazy one?

You don't talk to your camera do you? Do you sit it on the dinner table when you eat? Do you set it on the nightstand when you go to sleep? You MAY be crazy if you do those 3

Haha, No ps249, I don't do any of those things. And thanks all, I guess I just don't relize what kind of a beating these things can take.

I wouldn't be unnecessarily (sp?) rough with it, and I do tend to keep mine in the bag if I'm not using it or showing something to my husband so he can try to find it on his 35mm Rebel G - but if I don't put it and all it's toys in the bag, when I'm in a hurry, I'll run out the door without something. Like Monday, I went to class, hauling 2 backpacks - the one with my school book/notebooks and the camera bag. I fully inteded to skip coming home and go out and shoot my next assignment for class. Instead, I had to come home - I got halfway out of the school parking lot and realized that all 5 gig of memory cards were sitting right here next to the keyboard - where I had downloaded the pictures we took Saturday night in town.

I also keep my gear intact. I use it alot and I'm not afraid to go to the beach with it. If your worried about dust and the elements, keep it in the bag and don't use your camera.:) Seriously, it's good to keep your gear clean and I clean all my lenses at least once a month so when I need it, it's ready to go.

Hey--get over it--its a tool.

Take good care of it and R&R as needed.

Check out Ed's postings. You can't be any tougher than this man on equipment.

Lord Malone--Was it you I saw on the military channel last night?

One more thing: it's consumer electronics - that means it'll depreciate based on age and obsolescence. Its value will go down just as fast in perfect condition as will with some scuffs.

Probably. I know you can see me in at least three war documentaries series out there. Combat Zone: Battle of Tal Afar and My War Diaries (Military Channel) and The Insurgency (PBS). Do you remember which program it was?
