Has anyone used Nikon and Tamron 77mm pinch-type lens caps?

I am seriously considering getting replacement 77mm lens caps - with the center pinch-type release mechanisms. The two I see in the catalogs are from Nikon and Tamron.

I would like to hear from folks who have tried BOTH the Nikon and Tamron lens caps in the 77mm size (or similar large sizes). I would like to know if either one works and feels better than the other.

Even if you have not used both types, if you have used one or the other I would still like to hear your opinion.

Thanks, all.

Skip, I haven't used them, but I do know there are also non-branded versions available on eBay, at a fraction of the cost of Nikon or Tamron caps...

Kind regards, Wim

Hi Skip,

I've heard good things about both the Nikon and Tamron center pinch caps. I ended up getting the ebay Design for Canon center pinch caps and I'm very happy with them. I don't know if there is a 'feel' difference but construction and tension is very good on these.

Although I am happy with them I don't like that the items I order from Hong Kong take forever to get to me. I wouldn't mind if it took a week but the 3 times I've ordered ebay items from China it took more than 2 weeks to get it. To me that's not acceptable.

Please keep us posted as to which caps you get and how you like them.

I, too, have purchased from eBay the cap for 10-22 and 17-55mm lenses, with 'Design for Canon' on the cap, and am very happy with them.

(you need to excuse Robert, he gets impatient for his new toys to arrive on the slow boat from China! :) )

LOLOLLOL :D:D

I recently bought some CR123A batteries for my Sekonic meter from one of the Hong Kong sellers and after 3 weeks of nothing I emailed, got no response, filed a claim, then got some silly email from the seller, another week later she emails again to confirm my address. I got my money back and 2 weeks later the batteries arrived.

That's a lot of work for 10 CR123A batteries.

Thanks for the replies so far.

For those who have bought the "ebay" versions, could you tell me which sellers you have dealt with or "brands" you have bought? A search revealed quite an array of choices. There obviously is not just one "ebay" brand .

Thanks all....

Those meters eat batteries or sumpin'?

I have used the Tamron caps. I like them for deep throated lens hoods that leave no room for fingers. For others I prefer the canon caps as they are less likely to snap out of my fingers and fly at the lens.

I just replaced all of mine with center pinch caps from FotoDiox. They are very similar to the Tamron caps. They only cost a few dollars per cap on eBay with one shipping charge for the lot. They ship super fast from Chicago.

No not at all, but if you buy a single one in an electronics or retail chain they can be expensive. So I found a 10 pack on ebay for $10.99 including shipping. One goes in the meter, one in the spare battery compartment in the case and 8 in stock.

The meter doesn't eat batteries but if you do fire the radio transmitter a lot it does comsume a bit more power.

Hi Wilt,

You haven't been paying attention :D

The Sekonic light meters use CR123(A) batteries.

I haven't discovered film.......yet ;)
