I tried to install the BG-E2 grip on my 40D this afternoon, but was unable to remove the battery compartment cover on the camera. Canon uses a different latch mechanism on the 40D. I had no trouble with the battery compartment cover on the 20D and 30D. Anyone have any tips on how to remove the battery cover on the 40D?

Thanks!

Hold the camera upside down, open the battery door to about a 45 degree angle, and then you just pull it out. To put it back on, you just snap it back into place. This is explained on page 180 of your manual. :)

Thanks for the quick reply. I'd missed the section in the manual, expecting it to be listed it closer to the front, under the battery installation section. The grip is now on the camera, everything feels normal again.

Along these lines, they say to "store the battery cover "in the grip", What are they talking about, there is no place to store it in the grip so that I could see.

If the 40D is like the 30D, the battery door is stashed in the original battery compartment. Not the new grip.

The battery doors are stored on the grip itself. That part of the grip is the part the gets inserted into the battery compartment of the camera but it is placed on the grip.

Yeah I finally saw that, sort of on the side in the cut out looking area. Another question does the E2N grip fit the 40D better than the E2? The E2 seems perfect for the 30D but the bigger screen of the 40D makes the grip a little short.

It does not seem big enough or square enough but I don't really relish trying to jam something in there so I didn't try real hard.

Yes, it does - it goes in virtually the same place, i.e. against the "upright" part of the grip that goes inside the camera body.

Ah righto, Got it thanks. Slides into a bit with a small bit of rubber to hold it in right?
