Film ISO vs. Digital ISO

For most photographers ISO is just a matter of grain and ease of use in darker situations. What about contrast?

If I'm not mistaken a higher ISO speed captures more contrast than a lower ISO speed (talking about film)

My question is... Is this true for digital as well?
