I really felt I had to comment on how wonderful this camera has been.

I have had it for a year now and for the first time ever have absolutely no desire to look at other bodies...I really can't see what else out there could offer me all that this camera has given me...even a 5DMk2 or 6D if ever they produce one could ever encourage me to upgrade from this beauty.

So if any of you are in doubt over whether to buy one or not..I can only say that it is something you will never regret..or feel you need to improve on.

I feel the same way. I have no urge at all to move away from the 5D.

I wouldn't push a 1Ds MkII out of bed though.

I love the 5D. Traded it for a 1D Mark II N. Eventually went back to the 5D and plan on keeping this one until it dies. That's saying something. ;)

Talk like this thread and the falling prices of the 5D are making it nearly impossible for me not to buy this thing. Maybe I can use the "no desire to upgrade" thing as a sales pitch to my wife.:D

Considering the 5D was $3500 when it first came out, the $1000 price reduction makes it one of the best values around.

I also love my 5D. I need another body for my work. I am doing photogrametry, which is doing measurment from pictures of any objects taken from various angles. In this stuff, we need
1/ sharpness (mostly come from good choice of the lens). We shoot on tripod at f:8
2/ no noise. We shoot on tripod at the lowest available ISO
3/ a secondary, but apreciated quality is the dynamic. 14 bits are prefered to 12 bits. (we always shoot RAW).

So this is my question: Have the 5D been smoked by the new bunch on camera sensors and bodies released since? And where can I found a comparison of sharpness and nois of the 5D versus the others?

Thanks

Dpreview compares the 5D to older bodies. Not to newer ones.

What we see depends mainly on what we look for.

It's my dream camera.
Mine is now with almost 5000 shots... and, those are the best shots I made in my life.

I'll join this love fest, I don't know what it would take to make me want to upgrade. I'm sure one day I will find out.

I love my 5D too and never felt like I needed to upgrade it, until I wanted a second body and thought I'd try a 1 series. The feel and control layout of the mkII meant I had to use it instead of the 5D, I just couldn't pick up the 5D anymore. I love the images that come out of it (far superior IMO to the mkII) but didn't like the ergonomics. Shortly thereafter the mkIII was released with amazing images and that great feel. Now I'm rocking a mkIII for all of my shots and the images are still slightly less stunning IMO than the images from the 5D, but I'll still take the mkIII over it for virtually anything. So I'm selling my beloved 5D, almost exactly a year after my date of purchase. It will be hard to part with, but I just don't use it :(. It has only taken maybe 100 exposures since spring :\.

The 5D I think is the best you can get for price-performance-weight.I would not trade it for a 1D because of it's exesive weight, unless you want to use cheapo plastic lenses!

Though I must say that the 5D has failed two weeks after warranty expired I find it a great SLR, and I will get it fixed, and out an about again!
