The 5D I think is the best you can get for price-performance-weight.I would not trade it for a 1D because of it's exesive weight, unless you want to use cheapo plastic lenses!

Though I must say that the 5D has failed two weeks after warranty expired I find it a great SLR, and I will get it fixed, and out an about again!

weight isn't important to anyone.

I just took my 1D on a 14 mile day hike and a 10.5 mile day hike, both with almost 3k' elevation gain.

Considering the 5D was $3500 when it first came out, the $1000 price reduction makes it one of the best values around.

I think of it in opposing terms:

$3500 is way too much for a slow 20D with a "full size" sensor. :D

I just got my 5D early last month and I love it. I barely use my 20D any more. I probably shoot 75-80% with the 5D and the rest with the 20D.

I enjoy my 5D very much. Shoot with it most of the time. But, I still grab my 30D from time to time because it's a great shooter too.

Ever since I purchased my 20D back when it came out I have been planning on the 5D. My budget still doesn't agree with the price so I finally broke down and purchased the 40D as my second body. I have L series lenses, so can anyone break down the facts as to why I may regret getting the 40D instead of the 5D.

Camera build quality is of utmost importance. My lenses are even more important and I've always been an advocate of thinking this is where the money should be invested. Camera bodies change with technology much faster than lenses and in four years I can upgrade again, but I'm hoping to still have my lenses.

I have been thinking i should up grade from my 10d for a few weeks now and all I keep hearing is how good the 5d is , and reading many threads about the new 1d and 40d there seems to be alot of unhappy people, so I guess my mind is made up :D one went on ebay last night for just over £600!!!!

Or maybe was one of the most overpriced cameras to begin with.

ATM I wish I had bought the 5D rather than my 40D. But I hope it changes in time.
But hindsight is 20/20

You guys are doing a good job at pulling me towards a 5D. I need a second body. I've been looking at the 40D and the Mark III sense a lot of my outings are of sports and nature. After reading threads like this and with the said rebates coming out anyday I might just have to pick up the 5D for portrait and landscape shots and wait to upgrade my 30D to a 40D or Mark III once they start building them consistantly.

I have always been tempted by a 5D, as it must the one camera that everyone has a good thing and not a bad word to say about it, but I have 100-400L on my body 95% of the time, shooting sports, or sports action related, :(
If I ever need a backup it will be a FF, so a 5D or next gen of 5D

I love mine an have some wonderful shots during the day with sports. Have you ever used your 5D with nighttime sports? I am shooting football at night and having a little trouble with focus. Any suggestions.

I really felt I had to comment on how wonderful this camera has been.

I have had it for a year now and for the first time ever have absolutely no desire to look at other bodies...I really can't see what else out there could offer me all that this camera has given me...even a 5DMk2 or 6D if ever they produce one could ever encourage me to upgrade from this beauty.

So if any of you are in doubt over whether to buy one or not..I can only say that it is something you will never regret..or feel you need to improve on.

All I can say about my experience of the 5D is that I have NEVER had this much detail captured in my images with any other camera (my past cameras being a 350D & 30D).

I also shoot a fair bit at ISO3200 now, one light pass through noise ninja & it looks a lot like ISO400 on a 30D, whenever I hold the 5D it begs me to take more pictures, & when I do the focus is spot on target everytime & the images just simply look far better than on any other camera ive used, even with the same lens its better & captures more detail.

I feel ive now reached a level where I can happily use the 5D until something FAR better comes along, for me that isnt going to be anytime soon, certainly a 5DmkII wont tempt me, im getting perfect results now, how can one improve upon perfect? you cant, you can only add features, as far as the final images are concerned there are no issues at all with the 5D as it is.

I love my 5D but I have a little trouble with it locking on for focus during nighttime football shooting. Any suggestions? Thanks

What lens are you using?

I love my 5D and it takes awesome pictures. When mated to good L glass, there is no limit to creativity with this great tool. After seeing what the 5D can do, I am looking forward to the next gen 5D when it's released. Oh yeah! :)
