Ed ... you change your gear like i change my socks so pardon me if i'm a bit skeptical ;)!

ed rader

Then you must have smelly feet from changing socks once a year. ;)

Try that one with Ronald.

what ronald does with the 24-70L defies description. his obssession with gear flipping could be driven by boredom, nothing that a real job (perhaps a tour or four in iraq) wouldn't cure :D!

and i really believe that you believe what you wrote at that very instance. we are afterall masters of self-deception ;)!

That's with the 24-105mm f4L. It's not that bad of a deal. $2249 for just the body.

After $400 mail-in rebate it's $2963, and you'll have to purchase the Pro9000 to get it. ;)

Still not a bad deal. Essentially you'll get a free printer if you purchase a 5D body right now. My i9900 doesn't do a bad job.

Well, if we're talking about camera bodies that's the truth, Ed. But if we're talking about lenses then that's a different story. ;)

And I'm not mad at Ronnie for switching gear every other week. The man is simply using a method to test drive all the cool toys out there. Who are we to rain on his parade and knock his enjoyment?

I've had my 5D for about 2 years and I like it a lot. I will say I sort of like "new" stuff so I will buy what comes next in that series. My 5D was my only camera for a while and my first foray into the "real" full frame DSLR's and with like any first love, I will remember it fondly forever.

May I join in? :)

After shooting with my 10D for four years I finally upgraded to a 5D. This, after also buying a backup, refurbed 10D last January hoping it would make me forget the 5D.

I had wanted a 5D since it was announced and kept telling myself what I had was more than good enough for what I shoot. Even bought a 24-70 L hoping that I would forget the 5D only to tell myself how great it would be on a new 5D.

Working on a political campaign last year, I drooled everytime the press showed up as a number of them used 5D's (more like two of them around their necks) ... but I stayed strong and was still proud to be using my 10D.

I even went over the rebates of last year time after time after time trying to see if I would get sick of thinking about getting a 5D. Nope!

Decided to wait until the price dropped but I couldn't even do that and pulled the trigger in late July. Now I sit here wondering what it would have been like had I gone ahead and bought it when I really wanted to. My camera bag, though never satisfied, is content with what it holds, for the time being.

Now, if I can just get that thought of me driving a new 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR out of my head and off my monitor as wallpaper ... Hey, wouldn't the 5D look great cruising in a car like that? .... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Man, I'd love to own a GT500KR. But it's one of those cars that I'll have a poster of and will never actually own. Shelby already said it's going to be a very limited run and folks on the waiting list are agreeing to pay like $40K over MSRP or something crazy like that. That puts this car squarely out of range for me. :(

The great thing is we'll at least be afforded the opportunity to build a GT500KR as aftermarket tuners will undoubtly make replica kits for standard mustangs and regular GTs. And who would complain about a Roush tuned pony? ;)

The 5D is a groundbreaking camera. There isn't a day I use mine that I don't marvel at the quality of the images that come from it. It really is more like shooting medium format that it is a DSLR.

After six months with my 5D I am still excited to use it every week. And it amazes me time and time again with the best image quality imaginable for my kind of shooting. It's just a fantastic little device.

I can't see buying a new camera for another 8 to 10 years unless my 5D craps out!

These are basically my thoughts too, where as I never felt this way with say the 30D, I always had my eye on upgrading again, but with the 5D I dont think about upgrading at all.

After using the 5D and 1D Mk IIn side by side, the 5D is starting to show its age while the 1D is still going strong. It's little things like changing lenses and having trouble getting the lens to lock into the body; and the power shutting off and having to reinsert the batteries to get it working again.

It's enough for me to want to trade it in for a 1Ds just for the build quality. If a 1Ds lasts 3 to 4 times longer than a 5D it would be a worthwhile investment.

I didn't even know you crossed over, dude.

I guess I'm not good at keeping up with current events. :(

yeah I crossed over, I'm just waiting for my D3 to ship, come on Nikon... I may have as many as 45 days to wait assuming that I get the first shipment from Ritz...

The 5D is a great camera, but doesn't it seem like the 5DMarkII is going to be announced soon? With pricing falling though the floor it makes me suspicious for sure. You might just want to wait a moment...

wow, that's sad to hear. Is this common for the 5D? What about the 20D? There are plenty of older 20Ds out there, any signs of wear?

My older D200 has only 1 sign of wear, the rubber grips are moving around a bit, but Nikon sells replacements for cheap I hear. Other than that the 2 year old camera with about 20k shutters on it is doing quite well. :)
