wow, that's sad to hear. Is this common for the 5D? What about the 20D? There are plenty of older 20Ds out there, any signs of wear?

I use it just about daily so it is to be expected. If I average 200 shutter activations a day that adds up to 70,000 in a year. I believe the new 1Ds Mk III is rated at 300,000 activations.

i'm not talking about shutter boxes, but the body itself.

There was a guy a dpreview with his Nikon D2H, the shutter box broke at 6xx,xxx shoots. He takes 3-5k shots a day of pomeranias running around or something like that. That's insane!

My D2hs died today - but it took 637,851 photos before it finally gave out.

I really felt I had to comment on how wonderful this camera has been.

I have had it for a year now and for the first time ever have absolutely no desire to look at other bodies...I really can't see what else out there could offer me all that this camera has given me...even a 5DMk2 or 6D if ever they produce one could ever encourage me to upgrade from this beauty.

So if any of you are in doubt over whether to buy one or not..I can only say that it is something you will never regret..or feel you need to improve on.

Excellent post Fizz. You pretty much said it all. I have always been a 5D fan. I just purchased the 30D this past July - I am a noob at DSLR cameras but I caught on real quick. I am sure that if my camera ever dies I will upgrade to the 5D family.

I'm coming up to my 1yr anniversary as well...and I can honestly say that I love this camera and i'm not interested in anything else.

hahaha, who am I kidding? I'm always looking for the best there is :) The 5D is a great camera, but I'd trade this in a heartbeat for a 1DsMIII money notwithstanding.

I feel a bit, well, protective -- my 30D has served me well:

but the 5D is just delicious when it comes to capturing fullness and depth...

I think I'll keep then both for a while:)!

The 5D upgrade -- The 6D? will presumably up the FPS and up the resolution, because Canon claims that they have acheied a better resolution with the 1Ds mk III (not released yet) without sacrificing IQ, and we can speculate that the "6D" will follow suit.

But...for those who want/need a camera now, within pro-am budget, the 5D is a thing of beauty!!
