The reason I ask is that really must take my 70-300 IS in for its "recall" service, never had the time but must do so soonish ;)

The other reason to ask is I thought I would take my 40D along for them to give it a sensor clean - dust showing at f9 aperture and I like taking airshows when I can get to them so dust at such a large aperture is a no-no IMO.

So apart the fact that the lens 'repair' will take a few days/weeks (I hope its days) how did you find them for sensor cleaning and was it done as a courtesy like our USA cousins seem to get done at their respective Canon service centres?

Also, did they get it squeaky clean and do they show you the results to prove it? Going to Elstree though in miles is a shortish drive but round the NW sector of the M25 is no fun at the best of times  so I really only want visit as absolutely necessary.

That was a great meal ~ you must have a good set of pans :p

I just remembered Fixation in London!

Anyone used them and note what they say about their cleaning service http://fixationuk.com/digital.htm (external link) I know I should ask them but have you found they will do a clean under warranty?

Canon in Elstree? I'm not impressed at the moment to be honest, see my thread about an error code.

Not a cleaning thing (I'd much rather clean my own sensor - it's rare that I can't find the two or so minutes it takes! ;)) but Fixation turned round a shutter replacement on my 30D - and I'm including delivery times both ways here - in under four days, and they seemed to have done a bang-up job to boot.

Good people to deal with - they kept me in the picture (as it were...) every step of the way.

Elstree..... Hmmmm, well i sent my 17-55 in to them a lil while back for calibration and to have the dust cleaned out of it whilst they did the calibration. Well, this was a couple of months ago they did it but i haven't had the chance to check out the lens properly [my 70-200 is on the camera most of the time], when i looked it over it looked liked they'd done a good job cleaning it...... But yesterday, i took it out and as i took the cap off i saw a great big white blob stuck to the inside of the front element! on closer inspection i realised it is a small piece of polystyrene about 1/2 a cm in diameter, i tapped the side of the lens and it fell back into the lens and i'm having trouble getting it to show it's face again..... I'm going to give them a call about it when i get the chance, the only way it could of got in there is during their repair, so yeah at the moment i'm not too impressed..... I'm just hoping they will be helpful seeing as the repair was done 2 - 3 months ago.....

Steve

Well maybe it is not such a good idea when you go there, as no doubt all the engineers repairing the cameras, are just gazing at her errrrrrrr Lovely eyes

I have used elstree many times and had nothing but fantastic service from them. They manages to turn a broken focus ring on my 700-200 round in 24hours and didnt charge me the ups shipping on it either. Bodies have been in for cleaning and repair and I have had nothing but good experience. In some cases (when I needed to leave the country with the body before the end of the week, They have walked it straight up to the lab there and then.

I have to say sending your camera in for a sensor clean is a waste, it is a doddle to do yourself.

I use and Arctic Butterfly (by visible dust) and it is so so easy.

What's this about a "recall" service? Are there problems with this particular lens?
