Hi all,

Looking for some advice for an ad going into a parenting mag. It's the same ad aside from the side images:

OR

So, the question is really to tilt or not to tilt?

Thanks in advance!
Saqib.

I like the tilt, but I'd get rid of the phrase, "affordable prices." Appeal to clients who appreciate quality rather than those who price shop. The former are much more pleasant to deal with and have much deeper pockets. ;)

Thank you all for info.

Liza - the problem is to entice the people I need some reason to attract the people - I have been advertising last 6 months and no takers. My angle to break into the market is to charge a hefty sitting fee and then pretty much cost price for the prints, and I need to get that across.

Any ideas?

Thanks again.

I'd say that if you have been advertising for 6 months and no takers you need to do a complete rethink on your marketing plan. Have you been running ads in this parenting mag for 6 months? If you aren't getting takers after that time I would think you won't get any more responses if you keep on running it.

Best advertising is usually word of mouth and more informal stuff... maybe you should try some promotions with local media rather than straight out advertising... posting ads where parents/babies congregate... that type of thing.

Thanks again - the promo is kinda what this ad is for also. The parenting mag is local, and will be running a promo for a free sitting this month. I need to make a flyer to but sheesh no time!

Any ideas re the bottom i.e. 'affordable' bit?

I like the straight one more. the tilt isn't really enough to matter. Your ad as a whole is very straight and rectangular. there is no variation in the lettering or the color. I would say that the tilted pics detract from the image as a whole... but it it preference.

I wouldnt say that either of them would attract more or fewer clients, they are essentially the same.

You may have better results if you get more personal with people. do a trade show, craft fair or something where you can talk to people face to face. it is very easy for people to put it off and forget all about your add in a magazine, but if they meet you they may feel more motivated.

Drop shadows are too dark. Center square is way too dark. I don't know if this is a lo-res proof... but if not, you need to start over at 300 or higher to get rid of the jaggies. (make your boxes - boxes) If possible, work in AI, Corel, etc. Personally, I'd use some more colorful images as well. Not to sound crass, but the ad screams "beginner". Look for some references.

Thanks all again.

Amonline: yes, low res pic - full size is over 5megs. And am using CS3. The center pic and drop shadows are not dark at all on my screen, and thus far the previous ads have not been too dark - may be a calibration issue. But appreciate your time :).

Am working on an update so better get back to it.

Thanks again - further advice would be appreciated also!
