I know it's a pretty general question but I have a friend going to Japan in a week and I am thinking I might get a small point and shoot job just for situations where my SLR is too big to take. Now I want a compact camera that I can use my Compact flash card in but I'm also looking for a camera solution that also has a video camera funtion that I can use to record small movies etc..

I figure this would be the best place to ask for opinions. I've been in SLR's for a while but I don't know what the best kind of P&S's to buy would be. I guess I'd be looking at spending a few hundred dollars US.

Thanks All.

Check out the Canon S3. It uses a SD card though. I have one and it takes beautiful pictures and video. They can be found for around $250.

Not too many P&S cameras still on the market that can take CF cards. Unless you want HD-quality video, for which the only Canon option is the TX-1, the PowerShot video options are the same across the board. You'll need to look at other differentiators than video in deciding. If you want wide angle, though, the SD800/SD850/SD870 are about it.
