so about 3 weeks ago, my el cheapo TV started having flicker fits and would craze up whenever there was a bright scene. today i finally broke down and decided to buy a new tv and also decided that i might as well get something nice so....

after reading gazzilion reviews and reading about plasma, dlp, lcd and other various letter combinations, i just placed an order for a 46" toshiba 1080p LCD. of course me being me, i didn't want the quality to go to waste so i decided to buy the xbox HD DVD player. i then remembered that i DON'T OWN an XBOX 360 so i added to also add that one to the shopping cart. then, i thought to myself that what good is an xbox if you don't have any games to play on it? so i decided to also order 3 games with it (the new HALO is one of them of course). to complete the package, i ordered an additional controller and various cables.

so, because my $250 crappy tv decided to die, i just had to spend about $2500. needless to say, there are no new lenses in the near future for me :)

Cool Snir! I got one question for ya. Since the XBOX is HD DVD format, can you view movies on a 1080 P televison? I'm confused since these new technologies came out and I thought that you couldn't view due to the format. Basically, I'm asking if it's compatible or not.

And here I thought my new 32" 1080p, 1600:1 contrast ratio LCD TV was nice. It sure beats the 20 year old 19" piece of crap I was using, anyway.

Congrats on the new toys!

HDDVD and Bluray display natively at 1080p. With the Xbox360 HDDVD addon yes he can view the movies @ 1080p. If he got the Xbox360 with the HDMI port or gets the VGA cable with the older Xbox360 he will be able to view movies @ 1920x1080 which is 1080p. Congrats on the new gear OP!

well hell, now you might as well by a new L so you can take photos of your new tv and xbox. but if you're going to do that, you should probably also pick yourself up some new strobes too. ;)

have fun with the new tv!

Congrats. I hope you enjoy the new toys. You might want to look into a DVD upconverter. I recently got one and could see a noticeable improvement in quality compared to a standard DVD on an HD TV

You've done good. Congrats on the toys. I did the same recently. Got a 73" Mitsubishi 1080P DLP and added the PS3 with some goodies. I absolutely love the movie quality of bluray. Enjoy the new equipment. Once you use it you won't reget it.

46" - how big is the room housing this beast? It would totally dominate any room in my humble dwelling ($1.5m but round here that gets you a pokey semi).

now that big really but the couch is about 9-10 ft from the screen so it is a good viewing distance.
