#1, 4 and 5 are very nice.
I like 7, even with the hand covering most of the face. Is there really a photographer with a flash bracket?

A bit more face would have been nice in #2.
#6 I'ld crop a bit. #8 doesn't work for me because of the lighting, flare, and reflections in the mic stand in the BG.

Firewater has some lighting that will make you work a bit. We used to go to Thursday music there with The Twister Radio station. Now they go to Glass Cactus. I think you did pretty good for your first concert, and knowing the lighting there, that will range from way to hot, to way backlit. I think #8 might have had a better result to have shifted to your right, putting that hit green light completly blocked by the singer, and more of a "glow" around him, but then a better exposure for him.

Well, #8 has EXIF and it shows ISO 200 in your 20D ... let me recommend you shoot ISO 1600 and damn the noise! Rene is being nice ... #2 is useless ... pictures of people are about faces. FACES, Faces, faces. #7 is pretty useless, too, with his face covered with his hands. I know only too well that it is a LOT of work to wait around until people's faces show but that's my big recommendation for you. And nobody wants to see a sweaty beer belly even if there is a face attached ... zoom in on the face. :-)

I actually really like 7. yes, face is blocked..but some singers put their hands all up in their face, all over the mic..yada yada..No, I'm not a "professional concert shooter" but I certainly enjoy it.

I dont think 7 is useless. (clone out the four bright spots in the background!)

The rest them:

1: I'd rather it be in focus..seems off a bit.
2 & 3 are very similar in subject , I prefer 3.
4: I'd crop out the bright light to the right. Love the emotion!
5: I really love this one!!! I'd also crop just a tad off the top (the lights on the right)
6: I like this one too...not alot...but I do like it. again, crop off the right mic and the lights off the top, really bring all focus on him directly.
7: you know
8: not diggin it..too much green light!

Thank ya'll so much for the CC and being 100% truthful! I love the criticism because hopefully it'll make me better! It means alot to me to have my stuff critiqued by a season professional like you guys!! But from EVERYONE it helps! Keep the CC coming, it is all greatly appreciated and once I get better at this I will in return critique others! Thanks Rene, Dwight, Johnni, and Grace. Any of you ever shoot in the dallas area, drop me a pm and let me know, I'd love to learn!!! I admire all of ya'lls work also, it's great!

Dwight - sorry dear but I have to disagree with you a bit. Yes seeing faces in important but hands and body tell the story as well. The hand up at the face does that. If I had been shooting, I would have probably gotten a side shot. I try not to shoot straight on to a person's face with a mic. I too like seeing faces. Personally I don't go for the shots like #3 where I'm not sure where the "focus" is. Shots that zoom in on the hands playing are great but I would rather see them in focus especially if that is where the emphasis is supposed to be.
