well, I finally decided to do the focusing tests and i dont think they are that good. I also did some real world tests... and i think it may be front focusing... Let me know what you think. Please help!!

As for the scale, maybe it is the edges of the lens that makes it blurry? to me, the 2 and 6 mm look alot more in focus, but maybe b/c they are bigger?

A lying photographer, focused on his butt, but the ground in front is clearer (sorry, i dont konw how to put HTML properly).

This looks like slight (4-5 mm) front focusing.

What we see depends mainly on what we look for.

I can see from the color cast of the pictures that you did these test in poor lighting rendering the result useless.
Redo the tests and do not use that chart, take someting upright with contrasty parts, barcodes work fine. Put 3 of them beside each other with a difference in distance of a few mm. Focus on the middle one and see which one is the sharpest, and make sure you have súfficient light when you do it.
That focus chart is the main cause of false alarms there is.

I think the color cast is due to poor white balance more than poor lighting but I agree, lighting is important as is tripod mounting the camera. But it’s pretty clear that the camera has a bit of a front focus issue.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

i did mount this on a tripod... like the instructions said. and i do agree with u that the lighting is poor. I used my table lamp and use the AWB. However, the links of the lying photographer were shot in broad daylight, and i think you can clearly see that the ground he is lying on is much clearer than what I focused on.

I am pretty sure that I will be sending this camera in within the week for a replacement. I called the retailer and they have given me authourization (RMA). Thanks for your help, and i would gladly receive anymore input.

OK, relax a moment. What camera and lens are we talking about? Why are you assuming its the camera and not the lens? You can't tell from shooting with a single lens. Frankly, the focus test doesn't look too bad to me but there are some problems with your test one being that the chart was shot at an obvious tilt as well as low-light.

the focus chart i shot with the 28-135 IS USM kit lens and the lying photographer w/ 50mm F1.4. I will try to reshoot with better lighting and repost.

I forgot to mention that the focus point on the prone photographer actually covers roughly one foot of horizontal distance and the camera could have easily focused on the nearest part of his leg.
