they now tell me that i have dust in between the sensor and sensor filter. ARGH! In addition to that, I bought my camera in Bangkok and I'll have to get it replaced there (I knew that risk when I bought my camera in bangkok) or pay for a whole new sensor back home if i want it replaced. It's not a huge deal, but i can now do all the cleanings in the world and i'll still have dust.

I asked if it might have happened during manufacturing and they assured me it didn't (right). How have I been shooting canon's for years without this problem yet when I own this camera for 5 months I get this problem so soon. grrrrrr....i hate being given the runaround.

that aside, shot a little of singapore fashion week using AIservo and it seemed to work wonderfully. I hadn't really noticed any problems before, but i can attest that 1.1.1 seemed to work a-okay.

That doesn't sound good. I didn't think it was possible to get dust between the filter and the sensor....but what do I know. :) This is the image sensor, right, not the AF sensor?

Did they load 1.1.1 on your camera?

If Canon tells you that you'll have to get it serviced in Bangkok I'd freak at Irvine. Tell them they can replace it and bill Bangkok.

Utter tripe.

I know there are lots fo people out there that have zero issues with their camera, but long term I'm glad I kept my 1Ds Mk.II I think.

Good luck yelling at someone from Irvine..

haha...well luckily i'm still in SE asia and passing through bangkok again in december before my flight to japan. Sounds like I may end up spending an extra couple of days there waiting for a repair. But yeah, I'll certainly be freaking if they aren't more than helpful.

Image sensor, because he said it'd only be noticeable when shooting at small apertures. It just looks like my sensor has 4-5 specks of dust on it...even after cleaning. not a huge deal as I usually shoot 2.8 but when I am shooting at small apertures it'll be pretty annoying to have to de-dustspot for the life of the camera.

I asked how it could get between the glass (filter) and the sensor and he said there's a very small gap. I think that might be a load of bull as I've never heard of this happening to anyone else. Have any of you?

It happened to my original Mark II...I thought that Canon had sealed those areas with that sticky border thats works with the auto sensor cleaner and captures the particles so they won't migrate behind the antialasing filter...

I spoke to Canon today on another issue, and chatted about the MK3, they said the beta version of 1.1.1 was out, testing (not to public) and only put on cameras as a last resort. He could not give me a release date though.

On another matter, a subject that is quite often argued on the forums. HTP according to Canon UK service department, is all done in Camera before the image is written to the raw data, JPG. and has nothing to do with software interpretation.

I would think that if the dust specks were between the sensor & the filter it would be very close to if not resting on the sensor. If that would be the case then the dust would show up using even your widest aperture. Also, it makes sense, that if the dust only shows up at small apertures such as f:11 or f:16 it would be resting on top of the filter. The gap between the top surface of the filter & the sensor surface is why dust usually only shows up at small apertures. Hope this helps some.....
