BAD DEAL...
I recently purchased a refurbished 30D for about $700 plus shipping.
Before everyone jumps on my case regarding a refurb camera - let me state my reasons for purchasing a refurb over a new model (besides the great price).
I have a refurbished 10D and a refurbished 350D which are serving me very well. The only problem is that I did not buy them as refurbished - I bought them new and each needed a trip to the Canon Service Center within the first 90 days of purchase. The 10D just died from some unknown cause and the 350D had some serious focus problems.
Since their return from the Service Center, I have had absolutely no problems with either camera for several years with the 10D and for a couple of years with the 350D.
So, I am actually working with refurb cameras that I bought new and paid a new price for.
Since I have begun to place more confidence in the QC of the Canon service Centers than I place in the QC off the Canon Assembly Line; I decided to skip steps one and two in my next camera purchase. These steps were:
1. buying new
2. Sending the camera in for repair
I have had absolutely no problems with my refurb 30D and have been shooting with it extensively since early June.
I am sure that it was a freak event to need repairs on two consecutive Canon DSLR purchases but, why take that chance with my third purchase.
I did, however, purchase a Mack warranty to protect my investment for several years more.
By the way, I use all three cameras with my main battery of three lenses. I am thinking seriously about liquidating my 350D and buying another refurb 30D. I like the 30D much better than I like the 350D and I would only need to worry about one size battery if my three bodies were one 10D and two 30D models.
