A local Best Buy had a disply 30D on clearance for $1124 w/o a battery.

Do you think it's a good deal? I was gonna jump on it until I thought about how many ppl could have touched it, fired it, etc...

It was gonna include the 28-135 IS lens..which was a kit that was introduced just recently. It probably hasn't been sitting out there too long. It looked to be a good shape and I didnt' see any scratchs or dings on it. It was attached to their security device though...Of course, they don't know how many shutter clicks it has had due to people playing with it in the store.

*Shrug* I was just curious...I'm still interested in the 40D, which they had ONE left. decisions, decisions....

negative! For that price you can almost get a 40D with a battery...

EDIT: wait, is that with the IS lens??

I'd be inclined to say no, unless it's coming with the lens. Even still, I wouldn't buy it if it's missing an included accessory like the battery. Makes me question what else is missing, you know?

It includes the 28-135 IS. ironcally, a lens I just sold a few months ago..LOL. I have lots of 511 batteries from my 300D so I'm not worried about a battery. My concern was more for the shutter life and god knows what folks do w/ these cameras that are on display. But, ur right...its almost a 40D body...so I might as well just get that instead.

no, I'm not crazy about that deal...

It would be one thing if it was fresh new in the box...
but you would be getting one that probably has been
powered up for 12 hrs 7 days a week.

BAD DEAL...

I recently purchased a refurbished 30D for about $700 plus shipping.

Before everyone jumps on my case regarding a refurb camera - let me state my reasons for purchasing a refurb over a new model (besides the great price).

I have a refurbished 10D and a refurbished 350D which are serving me very well. The only problem is that I did not buy them as refurbished - I bought them new and each needed a trip to the Canon Service Center within the first 90 days of purchase. The 10D just died from some unknown cause and the 350D had some serious focus problems.

Since their return from the Service Center, I have had absolutely no problems with either camera for several years with the 10D and for a couple of years with the 350D.

So, I am actually working with refurb cameras that I bought new and paid a new price for.

Since I have begun to place more confidence in the QC of the Canon service Centers than I place in the QC off the Canon Assembly Line; I decided to skip steps one and two in my next camera purchase. These steps were:

1. buying new
2. Sending the camera in for repair

I have had absolutely no problems with my refurb 30D and have been shooting with it extensively since early June.

I am sure that it was a freak event to need repairs on two consecutive Canon DSLR purchases but, why take that chance with my third purchase.

I did, however, purchase a Mack warranty to protect my investment for several years more.

By the way, I use all three cameras with my main battery of three lenses. I am thinking seriously about liquidating my 350D and buying another refurb 30D. I like the 30D much better than I like the 350D and I would only need to worry about one size battery if my three bodies were one 10D and two 30D models.
