Does anyone get this (if my bastardised coining of the expression makes sense )?

Right now I'm really uninspired, which is incredibly disconcerting with a uni project coming up quickly, the student newspaper, and a wedding next year...

Argh!

Not so much uninspired, but mostly unmotivated... I took a few photos from Rotorfest this past weekend... it's only a few photos... I just don't want to do the PP needed, which isn't that much. But I'm with you bro.

We all do. Sometimes, I just set the cameras aside for a while and do something else, and after a while the ideas start flowing again.

Yeah, I am the same way. Comes and goes...but when I can find a new subject, ideas just flow from my head. Getting them exposed properly and sharp is a different story.

I've barely picked up the camera since returning from Africa.. what can I say after prides of lions, invading mongeese, being chased by elephants Nowhere Idaho just isn't appealing to me that much..

Yup, same here. In fact, it’s sort of packed up now as I’m trying to squeeze the last bit of summer out as the season rapidly deteriorates.

Sari, are you telling me that there are no elephants in Idaho? Are you sure? Did you look everywhere?:)

I get the whole bored to shoot mood and stuff sometimes. What motivates me a lot it seems is when I do a shoot for someone and they always say how much they like the shots and such. Encouragement like that is always a pick me up.

yea i get it and also have it right now, the best thing to do is to just leave the camera at home and go about your normal life, youll see so much to shoot you have to write it all down. then you can go back and shoot again...also, when you really wanna do something photographically but are uninspired to go shoot, try re-editing some older shots, it really gets the creative juices flowing and helps give you all sorts of ideas!

You call it "photographer's block," I'm calling mine "foto funk" ;)

It's going on 8 months for me, and I have 2 paid shoots coming the next 2 weekends....ARG!

As others have said, it comes and goes....some have to put the camera down for a while; others go out and seek inspiration, while others seek guidance from the spirit of Andy Kauffman...

I'm of the latter :D

I'm sure you'll do fine with your upcoming projects...maybe not to your expectations, but we're our own worst critics, right? ;)

I can't say this or that will happen as we're all different, but I believe you'll know it when you start "seeing" again...

You may not even realize it.....it may just "happen" and you'll be on your merry way...

In the mean time, accentuate the positive of our art, and hopefully the rest will fall into place..

I definitely commiserate my fellow 'tog....

*sigh*

Yup, I know what you are going threw...I am in a "block" right now as well.

Coming back from Florida this summer to the Midwest and I dont have a lot of inspiration...but I have a 100-400 on the way so that should spark something :)

Seriously though, take a break, dont worry about it, and the camera and ideas will start calling!

Except for one day a demo walked past my appartment I haven't shot anything since africa either. I could go to the zoo some day since I have an annual pass (it was auto-renewed during the trip) but its just not the same.

.... Midwest and I dont have a lot of inspiration.......

Being a mid-westerner myself, this is a horrible time of year to go out shooting. It is gray most days as the sun is hidden beneath thick grey clouds, the fall colors have not kicked in yet, and let’s face it, Illinois is as flat as a pool table which is not conducive to interesting shots. We are planning an outing to Starved rock this weekend if the weather holds which is always nice this time of year, but outside of that, there is little to shoot.

Paul Tinworth,
I think we all go thru a block.
However after a block usually comes great photo ideas :)
I suggest you pick up a book on photography to help pop some ideas in your head.

Thanks for all the reassurance! Nice to know I'm not the only one.

Strange how only one or two shots can bring you 'back to the light', isn't it? :)
