Shooting in cold / freezing conditions.

Hi all,
winter is fast approaching over here with the first frosts forecasted at the weekend. Just wondering what to expect gear wise and what precautions you take with your gear when your out in the field and then again when you bring it back inside.

Just make sure you let the camera warm up slowly.

gear, lenses, preferably L quality because they tend not to be phased by cold too much, should be fine as long as you give them a good half hour to adjust. rapid heating/cooling may cause water to condense, and that would be bad. i also suggest getting some underarmor gloves (not really needed so much for mkiii, but smaller cameras benefit from thinner gloves), put those under some thin gloves and you're set for an hour or more in -12C weather.

correctly, I think you should put the equipment into a ziplock type bag, seal it, then bring it inside to warm up. The condensation will form on the outside of the bag, not on the camera. And 1/2 hour may not be enough, depending on the temperature differential.
